What better way to celebrate winter than by having a “true” winter party outdoors? There are so many fun and exciting games that you can play to entertain your guests, young or old! If you decide to have an outdoor winter party, you must be flexible on the date. Of course, your party will depend on the weather and if it actually snows or not. In some places, you may not ever have to worry whether there is enough snow. However, there are some places that do not have as much snow as others. Once you have the snowy weather you need to throw an outdoor winter party, gather up the coats, hats, gloves, and of course “hot chocolate” and let the winter party games begin! Be sure to see more aritcles on winter party ideas.
Snow-Ball Throwing Contest
All you need is some food coloring, spray bottles, and numbered flags with sticks. Make a large bull’s-eye target in the snow by using the spray bottles filled with different colored food coloring and water. For each section of the bull’s eye, have a numbered flag to indicate points. Set a predetermined point goal and have each person make up their own snowballs.
Warning – This game may tempt you to start up a snowball war. So be prepared!
Snow Hurdles Obstacle Course
Build an obstacle course with snowballs that are the size of basketballs or bigger! Place them throughout the yard. Make it interesting by making some of the hurdles bigger and then smaller, and vice versa. Don’t forget the timer. The person who finishes in the least amount of time is the winner. Remember to deduct points for each time they touch a snow hurdle.
Snow Tug-of-War
Make a wide, shallow trench in the snow to serve as the midline. Team up and start tugging a long, thick rope. Whoever pulls the entire opposing team to its side of the trench is the winner!
Snow “Foot” Ball
This is an interesting game to play in the snow. Divide into two teams. Take a spray bottled filled with a mixture of water and food coloring and mark the playing field. Make a large rectangle with a centerline. Teams should line up at the opposite ends of the field for a kickoff. As soon as someone catches the ball on the receiving team, he or she will try to get it back across the defense’s goal line by either running with it or passing it to a teammate. The teams will face off on the spot. After a touchdown or four tries, the ball will automatically go to the other team. The game continues until the other team gets cold. The team left playing wins. You could also set up a point and time limit.
Snowball War
What is an outdoor winter party without a snowball fight? Make it even more fun by building a fort out of blocks of snow. The number one rule with this game is to have fun.
Have everyone meet in the garage for some hot chocolate to warm up before they head home.
