Theme Ideas for a Winter Dance Party for Teens

The first step is to decide on a theme.  There are many different winter party ideas that can be used for a theme.  The theme will set the tone of the entire party.  You must have a theme to begin the rest of the plans, such as decorations.

Winter Dance Party Theme Ideas

• Center the theme around a song, such as:  “White Christmas”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Let it Snow”, “Silver Bells”.  These are popular songs that will allow room for your imagination!  These are just a few song ideas.  There are many more winter songs you can choose from.
• Center the theme around the colors of the season, such as:  red and green, blue and white, silver and blue, white and gold, etc.  
• Make it a formal “black and white” winter dance party.  Everyone is to wear black and white.  
• Costume parties are fun.  Have everyone wear holiday costumes, hats, etc.  

Winter Dance Party Decoration Ideas

Now that you have an idea of what the theme will be, you can use your theme to help you come up with some ideas for decorations.  Here are just a few ideas to get you started.

• Brainstorm with the theme.  For example, if you use the “Winter Wonderland” theme, you could fill the dance hall with flocked Christmas trees.  Add in silver and white balloons (hanging and on the floor).  Winter white twinkling lights would be an elegant addition to the dance hall.   For a “Black and White” theme, red and black are wonderful colors to accent the dance party.
• Decide on whether the decorations will be more formal or will be a little wild.  Stick to that decision when adding in more decorations.  This will bring the entire room together nicely.
• Make sure there is enough light.  You can rent, buy, or borrow lighting.  Try supplementing with mini Christmas lights; however, this will not be enough light by themselves.  Lighting is essential for safety.

More Tidbits for Hosting a Winter Teen Dance Party

Remember that teens are really more social at this age, so do not overwhelm them with too many activities.  They like to dance and talk a lot!

• Dance activities are perfect for this group.  Make sure your DJ includes song related activities, such as:  the Limbo, the Casper Slide, the Macarena, etc.  Be sure to ask the disc jockey in advance to have these at the party.
• Have someone taking professional pictures or simply set up a place that is dedicated for teens to take their own “professional pictures.”  This place could be an arch or Christmas tree.  Anything for the background that matches the theme would be great!
• Have balloons just lying on the floor.  Believe it or not, a simple balloon can be a great entertainment!  They love to kick and bop them around.  They may start up a volleyball or kickball game on the dance floor.
• Be sure to have a lot of seating and a few tables for teens to rest and talk.
• Set out finger foods and a punch table.  Ice water is great to have around, too.

No embarrassing moments here for your teen.  A simple, yet elegant party is perfect.  As long as there is a theme, some decorations, music, and food, your winter dance party for teens will be a complete success.
