Frosty, the Paper Plate Snowman
This is a fun and very easy craft for the kids at your winter party. Kids have a lot of fun decorating this paper plate snowman.
Supplies: 3 miniature paper plates, orange and black construction paper, 2 black chenille stems, 1 white chenille stem, light blue chenille stem, 2 large green pom poms, scrap material for scarf, 3 medium sized buttons, black marker, pink crayon, white craft glue, tape
Instructions
- Set out the paper plates in the shape of a snowman. Put one above the other. The plates should be placed front side down. Poke a hole at the bottom of the top plate with a pen about ½” above the lip of the plate.
- Poke two holes on the middle plate – one at the top and one at the bottom about ½” above the lip.
- On the last plate, poke one hole at the top.
- Cut the white chenille stem into thirds. Put one of those chenille pieces into the hole on the first plate.
- Take the other end of the chenille stem and poke it through the top hole on the middle plate. This joins the plates together. Twist the ends of the chenille pieces together at the back side of the plates. Put a piece of tape to secure the chenille ends. Cover the holes with tape so they do not rip.
- With the other third of the chenille, poke it through the holes at the bottom of the middle plate and top of the bottom plate. Twist and tape, like above. You will not need the last chenille piece, so save it for another project.
- For the nose cut out a long triangle out of orange construction paper. Make the edges rounded. Glue to the center of the top plate.
- Draw in the eyes and mouth with a black marker.
- Make some cheeks with the pink crayon.
- Make the snowman earmuffs by gluing the blue chenille stem around the top of the top plate. You may need to cut it to fit. Glue on the green pom poms at the each end of the blue chenille stem.
- Glue 3 buttons to the middle plate.
- Out of the black construction paper, cut out two boots and glue them to the bottom of the bottom plate.
- Tie the material you want for the scarf around the neck of the snowman.
Keepsake Hanging Mittens
This is a fun project that can be as simple or as elaborate as your child wants. Let them explore their imagination with these simple and cute hanging mittens. They are perfect keepsakes.
Supplies: Old file folder or thin cardboard, white glue, scissors, hole punch, pencil, scrap yarn
Instructions
- Trace the child’s hand with the fingers together and the thumb sticking out onto the old file folder or cardboard. Cut it out. Do the same thing for the other hand.
- At the top of each mitten, punch a hole out so that the child can hang it.
- On the back of the mitten, write down the child’s name and the date. This will be a cute keepsake for the parents.
- On each mitten, spread some glue. Fingers will work for this step, but if you can find something like a popsicle stick, that would not be as messy!
- Cover the entire mitten with the scrap yarn. Create a pattern with the scrap yarn. The goal is to make the mittens look like “real” knit mittens.
- Allow to dry.
