Birthday parties are always great times filled with family and friends.  For your next birthday party idea invite people over to help create some of your favorite food items.  The time shared cooking and laughing will be enjoyed by all and you will not have to run around cooking before your guests arrive.

Letting People Know

To let your friends know that you are throwing a cooking birthday use recipe cards.  The recipes on the cards can be what you and your friends will be cooking for the party.  With the recipes in hand, you can also have them bring an item from the card to the party.

The Menu

The menu for a cooking birthday party can vary.  As long as you are serving food that everyone can enjoy and have a helping hand in the preparation your party will be a success.

You may even decide to have a fondue station set up in the party.  Set up a couple of fondue pots, one with hot oil, one with simmering broth and one with cheese will be perfect.  Have bite sized pieces of meat and vegetables for your guests to cook and eat.  Everyone will enjoy a variety of bread and fruit dipped into a cheese fondue.  Have batters for the meat and vegetables in the oil fondue.  Create a tempura batter by mixing one beaten egg with one cup of ice water and one cup of sifted flour.

Crab Bite Wraps

For a fun twist have your guests create crab and cream cheese bites.

You will need:

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese at room temperature
  • ½ pound fresh crabmeat
  • Dash White wine Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls
  • Sesame seeds

Combine the cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and seasoning in a bowl until smooth.  Gently fold in crab meat.  Have your guests separate the crescent rolls and cut each roll in half.  Place a small spoon of the crab mixture in the center of each crescent piece.  Roll the crescent around the crab mixture.  Roll in sesame seeds and place on a baking sheet.  Bake for 12 to 154 minutes at 375 degrees.

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Bacon wrapped shrimp is a crowd pleaser that your guests will happily help you make.

What you will need:

  • 1 Pound shrimp shelled and deveined
  • Seasoning to taste
  • 15 slices of bacon cut into thirds

Season your shrimp well and have your guests wrap each shrimp with a piece of bacon.  Place on a baking sheet and broil for 10 minutes or until the bacon is crispy.

Party Wontons Bar

Have your friends create their own wonton.  All you will need is wonton shells, filling and hot oil to cook them in.

Fillings:

  • Take shrimp and cut it into bite sized pieces.  Cook with finely diced onions and bell peppers and let cool.
  • Crab meat, mozzarella cheese and bacon.
  • Ham cut into bite sized pieces with cheddar cheese.

Have your guests roll their own wontons and fry them until golden brown.  Serve with plum sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
