The Perfect French Theme Party
Paris, Cannes, and Marseilles are some of the most beautiful cities in the world, and many people have dreams of traveling to different countries like France to experience their native foods and culture. But if you love France and just can’t hop on a plane to get there, why not throw a French theme party? Bastille Day would be the perfect timing, but any occasion will work to host a French theme party. You can still feel the French culture, and your guests are sure to say “Oui, oui” to the invitation! Creating an Invitation with French Flair
So begin at the beginning, the invitations. It’s easy to find blank cards with Parisian scenes printed on them, and those make great invitations. Or simply print your own invitations and design them with an Eiffel Tower watermark. Whatever invitation you choose, be sure to use as many commonly-known French words as possible. Address your friends as “amie,” and refer to the guests as “madame, mademoiselle, or monsieur.” Small touches like this will really set your French tone.
French Décor
Decorate the area with red white and blue, just like the French flag. Create a Parisian café scene, with wrought iron tables and chairs, white linens and lace, and lovely little bud vases with a single red rose in them. Hang posters or pictures of French scenery, or find pieces of art by French artists to hang.
The Parisian Menu
Sure, you could always go with the easy joke of serving French fries or French toast at your French theme party, but there are many other wonderful French foods to add to your menu that your guests will delight in, and you can be proud of.
A delicious and classy French theme party menu can consist of French bread/baguettes and various cheeses, of course. Add croissants, éclairs, pate, and crackers for your guests to nosh on, and they’ll be transported directly to a Parisian cafe. If you’d like a heartier menu, you can serve French onion soup, a soufflé, various quiches, or try some standard French meat dishes. To wash down all of your wonderful French fare, be sure to have on hand many bottles of French wines, both red and white.
For desert all you will need is French pastries you purchase at your local bakery. Quick and simple. And don’t forget the coffee!
Consider a Consume Party
Though it’s not necessary that people dress in typical French character, it’s fun to add this piece to create the French mood. As the host, try dressing like a caricature of a French man or woman. Men, find a black and white horizontal striped shirt, a beret, a red scarf, and tight black pants. Women, you can choose to dress like the men, or try a big puffy dress and loads of face paint like Marie Antoinette, or even a French maid outfit if you’re feeling frisky.
Whatever the outfit, decorations, or food you choose; your guests will love your French theme party. It promises to be original, creative, and unique, just like France.
