These scavenger hunts are designed to accommodate people of all ages.  Children and adults alike love the challenge of a scavenger hunt.    The idea behind a scavenger hunt is the same for any age, which is that everyone searches for something.  The items you choose and the type of scavenger hunt party you execute will depend on how old the age group is.  Some scavenger hunts will use clues to guide people to a specific “treasure” or some will simply involve lists of items to search.

Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Kids

  • Preschoolers - A hide-and-seek scavenger hunt party is perfect for this age group.  Kids love to follow clues.  For this age, competition is not recommended.  Simply give the entire group a challenge to do together and give them all a prize once the “treasure” is found.

  • Grade School Age – Children in this age group do well in teams.  Give the teams clues to the next clue.  These clues could be in the form of riddles, puzzles, or poems that need to be solved.  The team the finds the “treasure” first wins the prize.  Have a smaller prize ready for the losing team.

Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Teenagers

This is the ideal age group for a little more advanced scavenger hunt.  Clues or items can be spread out throughout a neighborhood or even a city.  A fun idea for many teens is a Polaroid scavenger hunt.  You can provide the teams with a Polaroid camera or cell phone that takes pictures.  Most teens carry a cell phone that takes pictures these days so this should not be a problem if you don’t have an extra one.

Give each team a list of items or tasks to accomplish.  Once they find the item or complete the task, they must take a picture of at least one team member with the item or task they completed.  An example of a task would be to smash a cupcake into a team member’s face.  Make sure to give the team some cash if any tasks require purchasing something.

Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Adults

Adult scavenger hunts can involve teams of four.  Give them each a list of items to look for in different locations.  Include items that are difficult to obtain, such as a napkin from an expensive restaurant or an item that can only be found at the local craft store.  Also include tasks that they have to do, such as ride public transportation to a specific place.  The hunt can go on for hours!

Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Food

The scavenger hunt is the main attraction for a scavenger hunt party; however, just because the hunt is over doesn’t mean the party has to be.  You will likely have hungry guests.  For a kid’s party, have kid oriented foods such as Gold Fish crackers, popcorn, fruit, cupcakes, and fruit punch.  For a teen or adult scavenger hunt party, have more hearty snacks, such as pizza, nuts, sandwiches, kabobs, fruit, etc.

These scavenger hunt party ideas will ensure your party is a complete success for guests of any age.
