Round ‘Em Up for a Western Theme Party

Got an itch to put your cowboy boots on, a hat and some denim? Then you’re ready to have a hoe down with the best of friends. Follow these ideas to make your party a boot-scootin’ good time! Also see other party ideas like cowgirl theme party ideas.
Create the Perfect Invitations
Round up your family and friends with a great western themed invitation. If you are using an electronic invitation, then pick an appropriate cowboy or cowgirl pictured invite. If you are sending them out, you can take a picture of yourself all dressed up for the west.
Don’t forget the cowboy hat! Then tie a bandana around the envelope for added effect.
Setting Up with a Western Flair
Get a life size cardboard cut out of the guest of honor. Create a sign that says “Welcome to (guest’s name)’s Corall!”
Renting a barn or room at a ranch is an ideal location for this party. Most of your decorations will be taken care of this way. Set out cactus plants as the centerpieces. You can get real ones or even find inflatable ones for some added fun. Place toy snakes on the tables and have them slithering the floor. Ropes and saddles are also a great touch to add wherever you can.
Another great addition is having wagons placed around the area. You can utilize them for gifts, party favors or just fill them with some straw to really feel the mood of the old west. Place some western posters on the walls and even put up a curtain here and there for that old saloon type feel. Don’t forget to note “Cowboys” and “Cowgirls” on the respective bathroom doors.
The greatest prop will be the country western music you have playing. So, don’t forget a good sound system and some good cd’s. Think Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Willie Nelson.
The Supplies
For the tables, you can’t go wrong with checkered table clothes and red and white colored plates. You can even use Sheriff badges for nametags or place cards.
The Menu
Remember, this is the west and in the west it’s barbecue everything. Chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, steak and ribs are all good choices for this party. Throw in some chili, stew, corn and baked beans with good hot sauces and barbecue sauce and you’ve got some finger lickin’ good food.
For snack and appetizers, have some chips and dip sitting and vegetable snacks.
Great ways to serve up these dishes are having a buffet style with cowboy hats as bowls for the chips and sauces. Turn the hats over for napkin holders. Tie bandanas around the serving platters for another added western effect.
Country Western Games
Try some square dancing and line dancing. Hiring an instructor can lead to many more fun dancing games. There are also many themed piñatas in the shape of a big cowboy hat, or horse or boot. Who doesn’t love a good piñata?
Party Favors
Don’t let your lads and lassies go home empty handed. Send them home with their own live cactus plant, cowboy hat or even a good ‘ole country music album.
