80’s Theme Party : Crazy Style!
An 80's theme party with Hairspray and teased bangs, legwarmers, frosted lipstick and the birth of MTV. The wild accessories and introduction to machine like music are all reminiscent of the good time 80’s. The 80’s were all about good music and having fun. It was all about expressing your creativity and imagination. Ah, those were the days? So, why not bring it back with a crazy party commemorating this period?
Making The Invite Special
Now, if you already have a date in mind then that’s great, but if you are still trying to pick a date, why not pick a date where something really big happened in the 80’s. Not just hair, but try to find the date a certain band made the number one on the countdown or maybe the day a band broke up. It could be anything. The release date of your favorite 80’s movie, perhaps?
Whatever you choose, include it in your invitation. For example, “Help us celebrate the day that Wham! Made it Big!” Don’t forget to tell your guests that big jewelry, ripped clothing and shoulder pads are a must when attending this party. No 80’s attire, no enter.
Setting The Scene
The 80’s were a colorful time, so don’t scrimp on the color. Neon colors were all the rage. Pick accessories that boast these colors. Neon streamers and glitter coated Styrofoam balls are indicative of this era. Pick bright colored cups, plates and napkins.
If you can get one, a strobe light would be great. Posters were huge in this era, so don’t be afraid to post them up all over. Think Madonna, Prince, Flock of Seagulls and more.
Records are a great way to bring back that 80’s feel. Use them as serving platters. Hang them from the ceiling or scatter them about the tables.
Another fun way to add to the 80’s feel is to have the hit movies of the 80’s playing in the background. Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Sixteen Candles are all great choices. You can keep the volume low and have the great 80’s music playing so people can get up and dance.
Games
What’s better than trivia for a party like this? Trivia was the ultimate game back then and it can be the ultimate game at this party. Try bringing back some 80’s TV show games.
- Name that tune.
- The Newleywed Game
- Password
Test your guests with all the lyrics of Madonna songs.
Give prizes out for the best dressed 80’s guest.
Karaoke anyone? Rent a machine and let your guests belt out their favorite 80’s mix.
The Food and Drink
You want your guests to be dancing and laughing, so food should be an easy task for them.
Casual party foods like potato skins and buffalo wings were great finger foods of the 80’s era.
Party punch, beer and soda were also all the rage. And don’t forget the champagne!
Party Favors
Once the party’s over, send your guests home with a party favor, such as candy bars that were so popular in the 80’s. Ring pops, Popeye cigarettes, Bubblegum and Fizz are just a few.
