Pool Party Ideas - Decorations

Create an atmosphere for your pool area with cool pool party ideas for decorations.  These pool party ideas for decorations can be easily made, or you can find many of them at local stores.

• Create an aquatic theme.  Make fish, starfish, and shells out of construction paper, markers, colored pencils and other craft supplies.  Laminate them or use contact paper to cover them.  Hang them up around the pool area or put them on the tables.
• Make a banner to welcome your guests.
• Create a tropical theme by making or buying fake palm trees.  Buy or make tropical scenery on poster board or roll out paper.  Put it on a fence.  Bring in some sand and add a few beach towels, lounge chairs, umbrella, and beach ball.   Put some real shells and starfish in the sand for an authentic beach atmosphere.
• Balloons and streamers are always popular and are an inexpensive way to add color to the dull areas of the yard.
• Use pool toys as decorations.  Buy lots of colorful beach balls, inflatable tubes, lounges, and bright towels.   They not only serve as decoration, but also can be used by your party guests.
• Decorate the serving table with sea shells, starfish, or children’s shovels and pail.

For a more elegant party for adults, decorate with candles and flowers.  You can create a romantic atmosphere by setting up inexpensive candles and votive holders found at discount stores.  Fresh flowers can be purchased at local grocery stores.   Make sure the flowers keep hydrated to keep them smelling and looking fresh throughout the party.

Pool Party Ideas for Food

Because they will be swimming, you don’t want to serve anything that is too heavy on their stomachs.  Otherwise, they could have a hard time swimming and can get a stomach ache.  Bite sized snacks are the best types of food for a pool party.  Do not serve anything that is too messy or hard to eat. Try chips and dips and bowls of candy.   Serve up some lemonade, sodas, and water.  Alcoholic drinks and swimming are not a good idea.

Pool Party Games

• Colors – Choose a person to be “it” and have that person stand on the side of the pool with his/her back to the other swimmers.  The other swimmers should be lined up in the water on the same side of the pool as “it.”  Players are to choose a color and keep it to themselves.  The person who is it calls out colors.  If a player’s color is called, they have to try and make it to the other side of the pool as quietly as possible.  If the person who is “it” hears them swimming then he/she can dive into the pool and try to tag the player.  If “it” turns around and the players still have a hand on the side of the pool, then “it” has to take a step away from the edge and start over again.  If “it” catches the swimmer, then that person becomes the new “it.”
• Octopus – Choose a person to be “it” and have that person stand in the middle of the pool.  Players are to line up on one side of the pool and try to swim to the other side without being tagged.  Those who are tagged are to hold hands with the person who is “it” and all the players holding hands try to tag the swimmers.  Keep playing until all players have been tagged.
• Noodle Joust – Two players sit on a blow up raft in the middle of the pool.  Each player has a pool noodle and they joust to try and get each other off the raft.  The winner takes on the next player.
