Birthday Carnival

A carnival is not a carnival without a ticket booth!  Here are some simple steps to create a ticket booth that will add to the atmosphere of your birthday carnival.

Materials

  • Cardboard Refrigerator Box (found at local appliance stores)
  • Wooden Dowel
  • Scissors or Knife (strong enough to cut through cardboard)
  • Paints
  • Rolls of Tickets (found at local party stores)

Instructions

  1. Simply cut a door in the back of the box and a ticket seller’s window in the front.  Make little holes for the wooden dowel to hold the rolls of tickets.
  2. Allow the birthday kid to help you paint the booth.  Put the booth in a place that the guests can get their tickets.  Give them one for each attraction.   Take any birthday gifts at this time and place them behind the booth.

Carnival Booths

  • Face Painting Booth – Offer images that are easy to draw, such as a rainbow, balloon, lollipop, heart, or lightning bolt.
  • Basketball Shooting Booth – Make a line on the driveway and allow 3 shots per ticket.  If they make three tickets, then they win a prize.
  • Ball Toss – Toss 3 softballs into a basket.  If all balls make it in a basket, they win a prize.
  • Putting Challenge – Borrow a putting machine or simply make one.  Make a hole in the ground and put a plastic or Styrofoam cup in the hole.  Put a golf ball or ping pong ball into the hole.  Those who make all three balls win a prize.
  • Guess the number of marbles or Skittles.  The person to guess the exact amount wins the item.
  • Football Throw – Throw a football through a hanging hula hoop.  Allow three throws and let them win a prize if they get it through three times.

Summer Birthday Carnival Food

A carnival is not a carnival without food!  Make a lemonade stand.  Make a hotdog vendor out of a box.  Here’s how to make a hotdog vendor.

Materials

  • Filling Box
  • Wrapping paper
  • Markers or paint
  • Wide ribbon
  • Needle and thread

Instructions

  1. Wrap paper around the box or decorate with markers.
  2. Flip the lid upside down and put it in the box.
  3. Make a strap by threading the wide ribbon through each handle and then sew together the edges.

Hawaiian Birthday Party

A Hawaiian birthday party is really cool for kids of all ages.  A perfect welcome is to have the guests take a surfing ride.  Simply put out a blue tarp or blanket for the “water” and place a folded up ironing board on top of it.  Let the guests ride the board while you snap a Polaroid postcard for them to take home.  Don’t forget to get the right music to set the mood.

A fun Hawaiian craft is to make paper leis.  Trim the tops of colorful cupcake liners to resemble the scalloped edged flowers.  Cut a bunch of drinking straws into 1 inch lengths for spacers.  Use a wide eyed embroidery needle and twine to sew the centers of a bunch of flowers.  String on the straw sections and then tie together the string ends.

Make some tropical treats that kids will love.  A fun treat is to skewer pieces of fruit, cheese, and meat onto fancy toothpicks.  Blend tropical fruits, juices, and ice for smoothies.  Put them in pretty glasses that have cocktail umbrellas.  Make a beach cake.

Hawaiian games are:

  • Hula Hoopla – Give two kids a hula hoop and see who can go the longest.  Give everyone a chance for the first round.  Winners of the first round are to move on to round two.  Continue on until there is one winner.  That person wins the hula hoop.
  • Aloha Volley – This can be played with a beach ball or balloon.  Set up a net and divide into teams. The object is to hit the ball back and forth.  Instead of scoring points, the teams are awarded letters to spell ALOHA.  The team to complete the word first wins.

Decorate your party by decorating with exotic paper or silk flowers, colored holiday lights, and paper lanterns.  Add in a beach umbrella to create a shady spot.
