Summer is almost here and for those celebrating summer birthdays, these summer birthday party ideas for games are sure to entertain kids, including pre-teens.  While pre-teens are getting older and don’t want to simply run and play, they are not quite at the age where they just want to hang out either.  Therefore, some summer birthday party ideas for games are a perfect way to keep kids of all ages busy at a party.

Summer Birthday Party Ideas – Classic Games

These are simply the “classics” that you can find at any party.  They have been around for many years and are popular for kids of all different ages.

• Water Balloon Toss - Have the kids stand up in two lines with their partner facing them.  The kids will toss a water balloon back and forth.  After each turn, they are to step back.  The last team standing with an unbroken balloon wins.  This game never loses its popularity.
• Jump Rope H2O – Kids jump rope with a plastic cup full of water.  The kid who has the most water in the cup after his/her turn wins.
• Bubbles – Make different shapes and sizes out of wire coat hangers.  Make up games of your own or simply let them run around blowing bubbles.  They all will get a kick out of the big odd shaped bubbles they can make.
• Toilet Paper Races – Split kids up into teams that have at least five to seven people.  They should sit in a line facing towards the front.  Hand the first team member the end of a roll of toilet paper.  They should pass the toilet paper back while holding the piece they unraveled.  The first team to get it to the end without breaking wins.

Summer Birthday Party Ideas – Simple and Fun Games

• Limbo – Put on some fun summer music and have the children to under a broom stick or section of PVC pipe.  They must go under the stick bent over backwards.  After each turn for that child, lower the stick.  As children fall down, they are eliminated.  The last one that is able to get to the lowest limbo stick height wins the game.
• Musical Inner Tubes – This game is similar to musical chairs, only you will have the kids stand in blown up inner tubes.  You can get these pretty cheap at your local dollar store.  Choose some fun summer music.  Once the music stops, the person without an inner tube is eliminated.  Take away an inner tube after each person is eliminated.
• Water Balloon Volleyball – You can make a simple volleyball net out of a clothesline.  Split the guests up into two teams.  One team will hold one end of a towel or sheet and work together to catapult the balloon to the opposing team.  If either team drops or breaks the balloon, the opposite team will score a point.  Don’t overfill the balloons.
• Scavenger Hunt – Summer is the perfect time for a scavenger hunt.  This is a perfect game for kids of all ages.  For younger kids, keep the hunt limited to your own yard.  For older kids, you can make it a neighborhood hunt.  Split the kids up into teams.  Give each team a list of objects that are needed to be found.   Set a time for all the kids to be back.  Whoever has found the most items wins the hunt.
