These summer activities for kids are a wonderful way to introduce your children to the power of giving.  Not only will they learn valuable lessons, these summer activities for kids will keep them busy and out of trouble.

Donating Proceeds from a Kids Garage Sale

Let your kids gather up all their old toys and put a price on them.  They could ask for donations to the garage sale from neighbors.  Let them set up the entire thing from start to finish.   Suggest that they make a banner that says the garage sale proceeds will be donated to a specific charity.  You may need to help with the money, but let them do all the figuring.  This is a great way to keep up on their math skills, while having fun and making money to give to charity.

Donating Proceeds from a Lemonade Stand

Have the kids make up a banner.  The banner should state that that the proceeds will be donated to charity.  If there is a specific charity, put the name on the banner.  If they are able to make the lemonade on their own, great!  If not, help them prepare the lemonade.  You may need to help with the money part, but if they can do that part, let them.

Volunteer in the Community

There are so many volunteer opportunities that will not only give kids something valuable to do this summer, but will also help those in need.  They could volunteer at a food pantry, a nursing home, a soup kitchen, or your local pet shelter.

Volunteering at a food pantry could involve stocking shelves or delivering meals.  This will also help your kids to realize that there are people who are less fortunate than themselves and help them to appreciate their lives that much more.

Volunteering at a nursing home helps children to develop intergenerational relationships.  Not only that, those living in the nursing homes will be so happy to visit with them.  It is amazing the power of children in the elderly.  Your children could truly make a difference in someone’s life, and someone they meet could truly change a child’s life.

Volunteering at a soup kitchen can literally change your child’s entire perspective on life.  There is always someone that has greater needs and helping someone in need is the most fulfilling feeling and an excellent life lesson for your kids.

Donate Homemade Cards

This is a lot of fun and can keep them busy for hours!  It is also a great rainy day project.  This is cool because it can be an ongoing summer project.  You can never give too many cards!  Donate get well cards to hospitals or thinking of you cards to nursing homes.  This is an amazing gift and can truly make someone extremely happy.  Your kids can also make Christmas cards, Easter cards, Valentine’s Day Cards, etc.  Make sure you keep them in a nice box so they do not get ruined.
