Spring Birthday Party Ideas

Construction Site Party

This party is perfect for that child that loves to build or dig. Boys and girls alike will love this party.   Start off with a scrap-wood invitation.  You can purchase a wooden craft rectangle at any craft store.  With a ballpoint pen, use construction words to decorate the invitation.   For the place of the party, write “Construction Site” and for the host of the party, write “Site Boss.”  For the time of the party, you could write, “Shift.  Use words, such as caution, tool belt, work zone, etc.

When the kids arrive, give them a construction hat and a waist apron to be used as their tool belt.  Have the kids write their names on it and decorate it with fabric markers. Give the kids things to fill up the tool belt, such as the supplies they will need for the construction job.  Of course, this will be items, such as a wooden paint brush, carpenter’s pencil, small measuring tape, a snack, etc. 

Construction Job – Before the party, make a basic playhouse out of cardboard.  Make sure it is big enough and steady enough for the kids to work on.  Tell the kids that their job is to get the playhouse up to code.  Have them prepare their work zone by adding caution tape and cones.  Tell them the house will need shingles, shutters, window boxes, paint, etc.  Be sure to have all the supplies they need, as well as an adult’s help.

Start them off with a list of ideas for the house, but let them use their imagination.  Here are some things to include on the list:

• Glue paper shingles to the roof.
• Draw doors and windows.  A parent can cut them out with a box knife.
• Make a show-box window box filled with paper flowers made from pipe cleaners and tissue paper.  Parents can hot glue the boxes onto the house.
• Glue doorknobs made out of jar lids and bottle caps.
• Cardboard shutters can be added by parents with a hot glue gun.
• Paint the house with tempera paint.

Allow them to get creative.  They could really get into it by adding a fence, garden, etc. Play some outdoor games, such as tag, a digging relay race (out of the sandbox), etc.  A tractor cake is perfect for this party.

Medieval Times Party

This is a perfect party for girls and boys alike.  There are many different things you can do to create a medieval times party.  Create two identical obstacle courses.  Some ideas for this:  joust the target by tying balloons from tree branches at the knight’s shoulder height, jump the moat of buckets filled with water, and rescue the damsel or gent in distress by putting dolls and action figures under a laundry basket.  Put a dragon on top for an added affect.  Give each child a stick horse and a joust made from a pool noodle.  Divide the kids into two teams.  The first team to finish wins.

Make a mini Excalibur for each child.  Have them put their name on it to reveal their noble name and city or state.  For example, their names could be “Lady Cassidy of Chili” or “Sir John of Camelot.”  Let them decorate it.
