St. Patrick’s Day Kids Party Ideas
Kids love parties, especially parties with fun games and crafts. St. Patrick’s Day party activities will keep the younger lads 'n' lassies entertained and out of trouble. Kids will have a blast at your St. Patrick’s Day party.
Pin the Shamrock on the Leprechaun
Materials
- Big picture of Leprechaun
- Green shamrock for each child with adhesive on back
- Blindfold
Tip: Put the name of each child on one shamrock.
Instructions
Blindfold child. Spin him around. Have him stick the shamrock where it should go. The child who is the closest wins the prize.
Hot Shamrock
Materials
- Shamrock made from fabric
- Irish Jig music
Instructions
Have children sit in a circle. Give the shamrock to one child. When the music begins, that child will pass the shamrock to the next person. Whoever is holding the shamrock when the music stops scoots out of the circle. For fun, have something little like a treat for each person that gets out. This makes it more fun to be out.
Pot of Gold Toss
Materials
- Large cardboard box with good size holes cut out in center (pot of gold)
- Gold circular bean bags to resemble gold coins
- Gold bucket to hold chocolate gold coins
- Tape for distance line
- Chocolate gold coins
Instructions
Put the pot a little distance from the wall with a paper box lid. Mark the distance with the tape according to their age. Each child will have three tries. Those who get three gold coin bags will earn a chocolate gold coin from the pot of gold.
Shamrock Stomp
Materials
- Large laminated green shamrocks – one for each child
- Irish Jig Music
Instructions
Tape the shamrocks to the floor. Have each child stand on a shamrock. Start the music. Have the children walk around the room. When the music stops, the children need to stand on a shamrock. If they do not land on a shamrock, they are out. Take away one shamrock each time the music stops. For the person who is out, have a special treat or prize for them to pick from to ease the fact that he/she is out.
Shamrock Pom Pom Magnets
Materials
- 3 large green pom poms
- Scrap of green felt
- Scissors
- White craft glue or hot glue
- 6” piece of gold ribbon
- Magnet strips
Instructions
- Glue all three pom poms together to create a shamrock.
- Make a stem out of a piece of green felt. Glue to the back of the shamrock.
- Glue a bow made out of the gold ribbon onto the front of the shamrock.
- Place the magnet strip on the back of the shamrock.
Leprechaun Hat
Materials
- Green poster board or cardstock
- Pair of compasses (type used in school for math)
- Scissors
- Craft knife
- Cutting mat
- Stapler
- Sticky tape
- Green felt paper
- Green wrapping paper
- Paper adhesive
Instructions
- Draw a circle that is large enough for the brim of a hat.
- Cut out a circle with scissors.
- Draw a second circle inside the first circle. Be sure it is large enough to fit the child’s head. Cut along this line with a craft knife.
- Measure the diameter of the brim and cut another circle out of the green poster board or cardstock. It should measure about 6 inches larger for the crown.
- Pin the needle and draw the 6 inches diameter circle by rotating the pencil.
- Fold this circle into a cone shape to fit inside the brim. A slit should be cut from the edge into the center. Staple the cone into its position where the cut ends overlap.
- The cone should be taped to the brim on the inside. Make a shamrock shape on the green poster board. Cut out the shamrock and place it on the shamrock shape. Glue it in a way so the hole of poster board shamrock is covered. Glue the uncovered side of the poster board, and fix it on the front of the cone.
With these St. Patrick’s Day activities, the kids at your party will be talking about it at school for weeks.
