The time for your party is important to what you will be serving.  If you have an afternoon tea, food is light.  The times would be between two and three o’clock.  If you are planning on a dinner menu, this is considered “high tea” and should be served between four and six o’clock.

To stay within the budget, start by making your own handmade St. Patrick’s Day tea party invitations.  Your guests will feel extra special when they receive an invitation made special for them.  Handwritten invitations show you took the time to ensure their invitation was perfect for them.

Make sure to get the invitations out early enough.  This is the time to tell people about any special requirements for the tea party, such as if you want them to all wear green or bring something to share.   For an added touch, make a small pot of gold with a few gold covered chocolate coins with their handwritten invitation.  Put it somewhere where your guests will find it.

The color scheme is green.  Although green is the theme, consider an accent color, such as white or orange.   For your tables, baskets of green apples or pots of mints are great for centerpieces.  Shamrock confetti can be sprinkled over the tables.  For the pots, wrap ribbon in your accent colors.  For an elegant look, green linen tablecloths with white flowers are impressive.   A fun entrance for your tea party guests is a balloon rainbow with a pot of gold at the end.  There are many very inexpensive ways to decorate for your party.

The menu depends on what time of day your tea party will be.  There are quite a few Irish dishes that can be served with your tea, such as Cabbage and Bacon and Irish stew.   Cookies, cupcakes, and mints can be served with green food coloring.  In fact, green food coloring can be added to just about anything, including your tea.  Irish oatmeal cranberry scones, Pistachio fruit fluff, and Emerald Isle fruit dip are more treats you can serve at your St. Patrick’s Day tea party.

To make your St. Patrick’s Day tea party memorable and special, make a toast.  Here are some ideas of sayings and blessings to extend to your guests.

• “May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you, and all that your heart desires.”
• “May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.”
• “For each petal on the shamrock this brings a wish your way-good health, good luck, and happiness for today and every day.”
