New Years Party

New Year’s Eve is a sentimental time of year. It can be bittersweet for many. The end of the old and the beginning of the new. It’s a time to reflect and a time to refresh. It’s generally not a time you want to spend alone and you shouldn’t have to. Movies highlight this event as a time to put on your best dress and hit glamorous parties. Dressing up and going out can be a costly affair and even more expensive is to throw one of these glamour parties. The important thing is to share this time with the people you care about. It’s not about what you do, it’s about how you do it. Be sure to see how to have a New Years Toast on a budget.

You probably spend the most money around the holidays. Between decorating, giving gifts, throwing parties and hosting dinner, it’s a wonder you have any extra to ring in the New Year. Maybe you don’t. But, that shouldn’t be a reason not to celebrate. Don’t be afraid to host that party, but don’t be afraid to ask your guests to bring their own food and drinks as well.

Why not? People have BYO (Bring Your Own) parties all the time. It’s a great way for people to get together on a budget and even try some new things. Have your guests bring their favorite dish and drink and by the time everyone gets there, you’ve got a healthy does of variety to keep your guests happy as they ring in the new year.

Food and Drinks

Remind your guests that this is a casual and fun party. Have everyone bring something different that is simple and inexpensive. Some ideas are brownies for dessert, cherry tomatoes and cheese cubes on a stick for appetizers, pastas and anything that’s fast and easy. For drinks, two-liter bottles of soda and inexpensive wines and champagne to ring in the New Year. The best place to find great deals on food, drink and supplies is your local Dollar store.

Decorations and Noisemakers

You can find disposable plates, cups and utensils and even small decorations at the Dollar stores as well! They’ll have noisemakers, glitter and glue and all sorts of fun little things to help you celebrate at a bargain.

Games

Since you will be waiting for the countdown, you will want games that will last you through the night. Marathon board games are great for this party. Ask each guest to bring a board game from home.

Kids

If this is a family party then you will want to have a designated area for the kids to have fun. A separate room with movies, games and some kid-friendly activity is perfect. If there are going to be kids of different ages, you might consider getting an inexpensive babysitter to watch the kids so the adults can play without worry. The important part of this party is not how extravagant the party is, but how exquisite the good friends are that you are celebrating with.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!
