Roses can be used at either a fancy or casual party. The Kentucky Derby has been known as the “Run for the Roses.” Each year, the winning horse will receive a thick blanket of roses that is placed over his neck during the winner’s circle ceremony.

- Set up small round tables in the grass. Cover them with white linen tablecloths. Linens will create an elegant and classy environment.

- Have a red carpet set out to welcome your guests. Just use a red flat sheet and fold it in thirds. A red rug will work, as well.
- Use your finest silver, crystal, and china.
- Create huge bouquets of roses.
- Purchase or create a horseshoe shaped wreath of red roses. Use this as a centerpiece for your table or hand on the wall.
- Create banners that label different areas of the room. Some banners to include in a fancier party are: “The Grandstand”, “The Winners’ Circle”, “The Owner’s Box”, and “Millionaire’s Row.”
- Design horseshoes covered in roses.

- Create a banner for the finishing line.
- Use napkins, paper plates, etc. that have the Kentucky Derby theme.
- Put a tightly packed red rose bouquet in a silver Mint Julep cup in the center of the table. Have small candles or mini horseshoes scattered all around the flowers.
- Create place cards in the shape of horseshoes out of white cardstock.
- Make small banners to label different areas of the room. For the bar, make a banner that says, “The Watering Trough.” For the buffet table, have a banner that says, “The Feedbag.”
- Decorate with spring flowers or roses.
- Display horse figures.
- Put up posters of horses.
