Patriotic Flag Streamers

Hang these streamers all around the yard or room.  They will instantly transform your room or yard into a patriotic party.   Make a template of a flag on plain paper.  Cut it out and trace the flag onto colored or patterned cardstock.  Cut out the flags.

To make the streamers, cut twine to the length you want the streamers to be.  Put glue on the top, back side of the flag.  Wrap this glued edge around the twine.   When you do this, you will create flaps.  Fold the flaps forward and secure them onto the front of the flag with glue.   Make as many flags as you want, depending on the size of the streamers.

Flaming Flowers

Transform ordinary spider mums into flaming flowers in seconds.   All you need for these flaming flowers are spider mums and red and silver floral spray.   Hold the flowers by the stem upside down.  Twirl the stem in your fingers while you spray the tips.  Alternate the spray between light and dark coats.  Put them in vases.

Tissue Paper Freedom Fans

Decorate the porch, gazebo, or room with these tissue paper freedom fans.  They create a patriotic atmosphere instantly.  All you need to make these dazzling 4^th of July decorations are solid red, white, and blue tissue paper fans, scissors, and painters’ tape.

To make a fan in a different size, simply trim diagonally along the closed, unstapled end of the fan.  Cut different lengths.  Open the fan halfway.  Peel off a few layers from one side; however, leave the staples in place.  Simply use painters’ tape to hang the fans all over.

Patriotic Containers

You can put anything you like into these special red, white, and blue containers.  They are perfect for centerpieces and can be placed on tables and in different areas of the party.   Consider cutting the stems of the flaming flowers to make them shorter and place them in these patriotic containers.  You can also put snacks in them.

Tools and Materials

• Different shaped cylindrical clear glass containers
• Glassine sheets (red, white, and blue)
• Tape measure
• Rotary cutter
• Double sided tape
• Glue stick

Instructions

1. The container you are working on will need to be measured.  You will measure the height and circumference and add ½ inch.  Choose a color for the piece of the colored glassine and cut to the measurements you just made.   Use the double sided tape to secure the glassine that is to be wrapped around the container.
2. With the other colors of glassine, make patterns and decorations.  You can make stripes and stars or anything else you can come up with.  Use the double sided tape or glue stick to secure the decorations onto the votive.

Patriotic Votives

These are perfect for when the sun goes down on the 4^th of July.  They will illuminate the party while you are waiting for the explosive display of fireworks to begin.  They are simple to make and will truly create a patriotic aura for your Independence Day celebration.

Tools and Materials

• Wire cutter
• 20 gauge annealed wire
• Round nose pliers
• Pencils
• Votive candles (red, white, and blue)

Instructions

1. With a wire cutter, cut a 21 inch piece of the 20 gauge annealed wire.  Fold wire in half.  Crimp below the fold with round nose pliers.  The crimpled end should be wrapped over the pencil to create a hook.    With the pliers, hold the base of the hook tightly.  Separate the two lengths of the wire and then twist tightly around each other three times.
2. Make a cuff to hold the votive by bending the wire at a 90 degree angle 4¼ inches from the hook base.  Do this on both lengths of the wire.  The bends should be situated on the opposite sides of the votive about two-thirds down from the bottom of the glass.
3. Take each cut end and bring it around to meet the opposite bend.  Make a little loop at each cut end with the tip of the pliers.  The loops should be hooked and then use the pliers to close the loops securely.
4. Put red, white, and blue votive candles into the circle that is formed.  Make sure the flames are not located near any flammable surfaces.
