Halloween is a fun time to dress up not only ourselves in different costumes and wigs, but also our foods, too. Everyday foods can be served in new ways to create some spookily delicious treats in celebration of the Halloween holiday spirit. Try some of these foods the next time you’re looking for a fun, yet spooky, treat. See other Halloween recipes.
Dirt Your Kids Will Love to Eat
When we were kids, we ate dirt. Sure, it was disgusting, but maybe we were onto something, because these days, dirt is always delicious. It’s easy, too. Mix some chocolate pudding according to the box’s instructions. Crush some crushed chocolate sandwich cookies on top, and stick in a few gummy worms and spiders to add a really dirty effect. Spoon out the delicious treat, and watch everyone enjoy eating dirt!
Do it Yourself Jack-O-Lantern Pizza
Jack-O-Lanterns don’t just have to be made out of pumpkins – they can be made out of pizza, too! Spread a container of refrigerated pizza dough in a pumpkin-shaped baking pan. Top with sauce and cheese. Then, add strips of green pepper to make lines. Cut slices of pepperoni or red pepper to shape the eyes, nose, and mouth, then bake your Jack-O-Lantern pizza, and serve!
Bloody Bones
What’s spookier than blood? Blood covering bare bones, that’s what! To make these yummy bloody bones, separate a tube of refrigerated breadstick dough, and stretch each piece a little bit. Then cut a slit in the middle of each end, and roll the dough into knobs to make them look like bones. Sprinkle some salt on them, then bake them until they’re golden. Serve them with warm marinara sauce, and enjoy how delicious bloody bones can be.
Morticia’s Fingers
Using store-bought lady fingers, spread them on a tray, and smear raspberry or strawberry jam on the ends of them. Put an almond on the jam to make the fingertip. Sprinkle them with powdered sugar, and much on Morticia’s fingers!
Mummy Toes
Why stick with Morticia’s fingers when you can add in some mummy toes? Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Using cocktail wieners, cute a wedge into the end of each one. Then, soften some flour tortilla shells in the microwave, and cut strips. Wrap a strip around the end of each wiener, and secure it with a toothpick. Bake them for 7-8 minutes. Remove the toothpicks, and fill the “toenails” with ketchup or mustard. Everyone will love these spooky but yummy mummy toe treats!
Spooky Spiders
Spiders are just about the creepiest insect around, so no Halloween menu is complete without some edible spiders. Melt a bag of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Then, dip regular-sized marshmallows in the chocolate, covering them. Stick in some black licorice strings for legs, add two red cinnamon dot candies for eyes, and creep everyone out with these tasty spider treats!
