Hi I'm just starting here and after reading some posts, I think this forum can help. We're planning a retro tiki party which is basically an old school tiki-party. It's a bit of a beach party but not necessarily luau. Please help on drinks and how to create a mood based on the theme.

Welcome to the forum trish . To answer your question, tiki parties are focused on food and drinks. Think about a beach party and remember the drinks that you had. To have a near authentic tiki party. Decorations such as totem poles and tropical plants can really have that tiki-mood. Exotic food can be a good addition as well.

If you have the budget, rent a few huts and a tiki bar (which is also a hut but customized to become a bar). You can also look for inflatable gazebos for your party. Request everyone to come in their best Hawaiian dress to complement the decorations.
