Oh my. I need help. I'm quite busy these days. And my 5 year old kid is having his birthday just before Christmas. Please help. I'm looking at just having a very nice weekend with the family or a great dinner at home. Would that be OK for a 5 year old?

Rent a DVD and prepare no more than four movie food kids will enjoy. Since Christmas is coming, it's no use working up the kids or tiring them for the upcoming season. Just complement this with a cake, a couple of balloons and drinks for the grownups.

I would agree to a kid's film but make sure to get something that will not last more than 30 minutes. The attention span of a 5 year-old kid is very short. Have some kid-safe games with small prizes instead so that everyone will have fun and you don't spend too much on decorations.

If you want to save money - have a simple birthday party that focuses on Christmas. The movie viewing is good but you might have to deal with a lot of gadgets and kids can easily get bored. Finger food for kids and basic party favors with balloons and cake should be enough. These basic ideas will not disappoint your kid. Let your kid know that he'll have two gifts (Christmas and Birthday). This will definitely put a smile on his face.
