My friend is having a birthday party for her 1-year old kid. But since the little girl can't say what she really likes, the theme of the party can't be easily selected. Basically I want to know the options or themes for a 1st birthday party

In this case, go the other way - talk to the kids that are attending the party. They should be able to provide some ideas on what they want for the party. Basically, they will still ask for a cartoon themed party but at least you have something they will really like.

I always go with my instinct for a theme in this type of party...but I also watch a lot of movies and television show so that I will know which games and activities kids will enjoy and will not be awkward for parents.
