There's an upcoming first birthday party for my friend's son. We have decided to make the party focused on adults instead of kids because most of our friends do not have any kids yet or still not married. Any thoughts on this? Basically, I'm asking if we have a party centered on the baby or should we accommodate what would the guests want?

You can always have a party for adults especially when there's any kid around (except for the celebrant). What I suggest is to have somethings for the baby and the rest for the guests. For example, have a couple of balloons, cake and a banner that says "Happy Birthday" for the baby and have the rest enjoy their meal.

I think the party will be focused on the kid but instead of food and other activities geared for adults, the party will have activities for older kids. This means the 1st birthday party will be another party for kids.

Thanks for the input guys Our first birthday party was a blast and everyone (kids and adults) enjoyed the party.
