Baseball Cap

Give each child a plain white or tan baseball hat.  Using fabric paint, have the kids write or draw on the hat.  Once the hats are dry, have all the dads put the hats on and model them.  If you plan this ahead of time, you can have the kids bring something that is special to their dad to pin on the hat.

Footprint and Poem

This is a simple craft that is fun for the kids and heartfelt for the dads.  Trace each child’s footprint onto construction paper.  Cut it out.  Have the kids glue the following poem onto the footprint.  Let the kids decorate around the poem and the back of the footprint.

Poem – Author Unknown

"Walk a little slower Daddy" said a child so small,
"I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true,
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you."

Father’s Day T-Shirts

Put a piece of cardboard or folded newspaper inside of the t-shirt to make a smooth surface.  Tape or pin a sheet of construction paper over the center front of the shirt to keep the paint from getting on this part of the shirt.  Pour different colors of fabric paints into pie pans or similar containers.  Press the child’s hand into one of the colors and make handprints randomly on the front of the shirt.  Once paint has dried, write with squeeze fabric paint, “The Best Dad – Hands Down!”  Allow to dry for one or two days.

Father’s Day Shirt Book

Cut down a 12” by 18” piece of construction paper to 7” by 9”.  Fold paper in half to make a 12” by 9” card.  The fold should be on top.  About one inch down and parallel to the fold, cut a 4” slit on both sides of the card.  Take the flaps you just created and fold them diagonally to make the color of the shirt.  Glue the ends to the card.

With crayons, markers, or fabric pieces, make the rest of your shirt design.  Create a tie and/or pocket out of paper or fabric.  Draw stripes or polka dots for the shirt design.  Add a tissue to the pocket.

Staple a few sheets of 7” by 9” sheets of paper between the covers of your book.  On the cover of the book write, “I love my Dad because….”  Draw a picture of you with your dad doing something special together.   Draw pictures and write about special things you and your dad have done together and why you love him so much.

These Father’s Day party crafts for kids are simple and will pull at your dad’s heart strings.
