Planning a season specific baby shower is easier than you think. This fall, one trip to your local arts and crafts store might be all you need to wrap up the entire spread, but before you head out to the store, check around your home. You can easily find items to use right at your house without spending any money at all. Your color scheme will be chocolate browns, deep reds, pumpkin orange and classic yellows. See our other Fall Baby Shower Decorations.
Around the House
It might be a good idea to check out your ‘every year’ Halloween decorations to see if you have useful material. A black witch’s cauldron might be perfect for serving chips or chili. Try a cornucopia filled with fruits and cheeses. Dust off the decorative scarecrow, or lay out the plastic pumpkin lights, just for fun. You will save money and set the tone for a great baby shower everyone will remember.
For the Table
It’s inevitable that guests end up crowding around the food table. A nice, solid table cloth coordinated with fall themed paper is a great choice. You can also use plastic plate covers for your basic decoration. Try a carved pumpkin centerpiece. Use a stencil to outline and carve the baby’s name and due date, or if you’re really good, try carving a stork. Add a cinnamon candle inside and then spread fall leaves around the base of the pumpkin to finish off the look.
The Food
Every baby shower has its desert table. Using color appropriate candies is a simple and affordable way to stay in theme of a fall shower. Make a batch of chocolate brownies, add a layer of caramel, and simply sprinkle Reese’s Pieces on top. With chocolate chip cookies, you can add yellow, red, orange, and brown M&M’s right into the dough before baking. Then, there’s always the classic pecan pie.
Don’t Forget the Guest book
Mom wouldn’t want to forget anyone who brought gifts for her new bundle of joy. Set out a table near the front door. Take a wooden serving tray and lay out fall color leaves, real or synthetic, inside. Sprinkle just a touch of gold glitter on top of the leaves. Center an open guest book atop the leaves for everyone to sign. It’s a classy decoration and easy to clean afterwards.
Packed Punch
Make a deep red sherbet punch for your fall themed shower. You’ll need three liters of ginger ale, one gallon of strawberry or cherry sherbet, and 16 oz of fresh or frozen strawberries. In a large punch bowl, mix the sherbet, ginger ale, and strawberries. Stir and serve with a decorative ladle. If using fresh berries, cut off stem tops and discard them before adding to punch.
Mix it up
Try setting up a mini-pumpkin patch in a small corner, or a baby mobile with a stork, and other birds flying south for winter. Put a wheelbarrow inside for the gifts to be dropped off in. Keep with your color scheme and creative décor and your fall baby shower will fall right into place.
