Simple Cakes
To take some of the guess work out of your Christmas cupcakes, purchase your favorite boxed cake flavors to make the cupcakes. For a little added surprise you can add flavoring to a boxed cake mix and make them special. Adding almond or cinnamon extract to your boxed cake mix will give them the homemade touch. You may also want to add nuts and chocolate chips to your cupcakes. This will allow you to spend more time on decorating them.
Icing and Frosting
Just like with the boxed cake mix you can purchase store bought icings to cover your cupcakes. Adding extracts and food will give you another layer of taste to your cupcakes. If you do not want to use a premade icing, there are simple recipes you can make to decorate your treats. Confectioners’ sugar is the perfect base for your frosting; you can add butter or crème cheese to make the perfect frosting.
For a butter crème frosting beat 3 sticks of butter until soft. Add in 2 teaspoons of vanilla or almond extract and a pinch of salt and continue beating. Slowly add in 6 cups of confectioner sugar. When all sugar has been added, slowly mix in 6 tablespoons of milk or crème to desired consistency.
