Creating Decorations for Your Tree

Decorating the Christmas tree is one of the most memorable activities of the whole season. Families work together to make their tree beautiful. There are a few tree decorations that are not only simple to make but also inexpensive. One of these is the traditional popcorn garland which children love to make. All you need for this project is freshly popped popcorn, thread, and needles. Be sure to pop enough to work with as well as eat. If you want to add color to your garland, use berries or beads with your popcorn.

You may also choose to create ornaments from clay you can find at any craft store. You can roll the clay out with a kitchen rolling pin and use cookie cutters to create shapes. You can also gather pinecones from your yard and decorate them for natural looking decorations. Spray paint the pinecones in holiday colors and place them around your house for added color.

Outdoor Decorations

For a natural tree decoration for the outside of your home make pinecone birdfeeders and place them in the trees. For a fun family project, gather pinecones from around your house. Take floral wire and loop it around the pinecone so you will have a way to hang it. Take the pinecones and cover them in peanut butter. Once covered roll the pinecones in birdseed until thoroughly coated and allow them to dry. Place a red bow on the top of the pinecone and hang them in the trees around your home or dangle groups of them from low hanging branches. This decoration will not only make your yard festive, it will also attract winter birds.
