Create the Perfect Bridal Shower Poem
Bridal showers bring out the bard in everyone. You can have a lot of fun when you write a bridal shower poem with all of the shower guests. The poem will embody the event and the couple, and it will also be a fun activity. See all our Bridal Shower Etiquette article.
Getting Started
Start with a piece of paper and a pen. One person will write a line about the future bride and groom. It can be a simple line about their personalities or where they met. One example is, “Lisa and George met at the high school football game.”
Then, pass the paper along to the next person. They will need to write another line about the couple, rhyming with the first. They can write something to the effect of, “Since she met George, Lisa has never been the same.”
Then, fold the paper over so only the last line written shows. Everyone in the party will then get a chance to add their line. Each person will only see the last line written.
You can either have every line rhyme, or you can create the poem in stanzas, where two lines rhyme and then two more lines rhyme.
Consider the first example. Game and same rhyme and they represent one stanza. The next person can either rhyme with “same” or they can create a new stanza. They can write, “She wasn’t the same because he was such a great guy.” Then the next person can write, “Everyone knows George is super fly.”
It is easier to write a poem with different stanzas, but it can be more fun to write one where every line rhymes. You might want to try it both ways.
Once everyone has written a line of the poem read it aloud. This is a great way to get everyone involved and have a fun poem at the same time. Everyone will enjoy hearing how the poem came together.
Creating a Game
If you want to make a game out of it, divide the people into two groups. Have both groups work on separate poems. Have the bride vote for her favorite.
You can also have different rounds. You can write a funny poem and then a serious poem. You can mix it up and go in any direction you want with this game.
Party guests will have a lot of fun writing a poem. This is the perfect way to get people involved in the process. It is a fun activity and it will also have a lot of meaning for the bride.
Tips for Writing the Perfect Poem
- Use humor throughout the poem, but mix it with sincere emotion. The poem should be a nice blend of funny and sentimental lines.
- Make sure everyone participates. Just because someone is not a poet does not mean they cannot have fun with this game.
- Do not be shy when you write your line. Let loose and have fun.
- Have people initial the lines they wrote so the bride will be able to tell who wrote what.
