Hosting an Elegant Baby Shower Tea or Luncheon – Invitations

Before invitations can be sent out, you will need a list of people the mom-to-be would like to invite. You will also need to decide on a date for the tea or luncheon, as well as a venue.  Hosting an elegant baby shower tea or luncheon at a private tea house or a fancy restaurant could be a lot of fun, but will be much more expensive than hosting it at someone’s home.  If you choose a home, do not worry!  You will be able to transform any room into an elegant baby shower party room.

Making your own invitations gives it a personal touch that makes the guests feel special.  Making invitations for a tea or luncheon can be fun.  Use light colored pastels or ivory.  There are many stamps for tea party themes, as well as stickers.   Use elegant style lettering.  There are a variety of stamps and stickers available to enhance the elegance of your invitations.  Make sure to tell the guests to dress accordingly if you want them to dress formal.  Remind them to bring their gloves and oversized women’s hats.

Hosting an Elegant Baby Shower Tea or Luncheon – Decorations

If you intend to have a tea or luncheon at home, flowers and candles will create an instant aura of elegance.  If you choose scented candles, make sure the scents compliment the others.  Clashing candle aromas will not be a good step in creating an elegant atmosphere.

Use real linen table cloths, real silverware, real tea cups and glassware, and real plates.  Also, be sure to use fancy serving trays for your snacks.  No plastics!  Allow yourself time for cleanup, as there will be a lot of dishes to wash.   Simple vases with flowers and votive candles will work perfectly for centerpieces.

Stay away from crepe paper, paper centerpieces, hanging baby shower decorations, etc.  While these are cute for baby showers, they will ruin the entire effect you are trying to create for hosting an elegant baby shower.

Create a special “mom-to-be chair” for the new mom.  Make sure it is comfortable and charming.  Wrap fringed scarves around the top or hang silk flowers around it.  This chair will be where she will open her gifts.

You will want something that shows this is a baby shower!  It is okay to sprinkle some baby shower confetti on the tables.  Dress up the cake table with a porcelain rattle, confetti, etc.

Hosting an Elegant Baby Shower Tea and Luncheon – Menu

The menu is what separates the elegant baby shower tea from the elegant baby shower luncheon.  Serve different types of tea and bite sized snacks.  Finger sandwiches are perfect for a tea.  The key to remember for a tea is that it does not matter what you serve, but that everything should be bite sized.

For a luncheon, provide a meal instead of a lot of snacks.  Include a sandwich, vegetable, fruit, etc.  For dessert, have a baby shower cake and mints!
