A baby shower diaper cake is becoming more and more popular.   Each and every “ingredient” found in this baby shower diaper cake is something the mom-to-be will be able to use for her baby.   A baby shower diaper cake can be used as a centerpiece.  It is cute and can be decorated to match any baby shower theme. You may have guessed by now that the baby shower diaper cake is not edible!  It is a collection of either disposable or cloth diapers that are rolled together to resemble a cake.  There can be as many tiers as you need.  The baby shower diaper cake is decorated with baby care items that the mother can use for the baby, such as pacifiers, baby socks, toys, bottles, bibs, etc.

How to Make a Baby Shower Diaper Cake

A baby shower diaper cake is very simple to make.  It only takes a few simple steps and a number of different baby items, and you will be ready to begin making a unique centerpiece/gift for the mommy to be.

Ingredients

• 60 cloth or disposable diapers (amount of diapers will vary)


• ½ or inch wide ribbon patterned to fit baby shower theme


• ¼ inch ribbon to tie rolled diapers


• 60 small rubber bands


• 6 large rubber bands


• One 8-oz baby bottle or a large bottle of baby lotion


• One 4-oz baby bottle


• Cardboard or plastic cake platter


• Cake decorations – baby confetti, baby sock roses, artificial roses, stickers, etc


• Baby items – pacifiers, lotion, bibs, receiving blankets, baby towel, onesie, wash cloths, toys, etc

Instructions

• Unfold all diapers and roll them up tight one at a time.  To roll them, start from the front of the diaper and roll it to the back.  Put a rubber band around the center of each diaper to hold it in place.


• Place the 8 oz. baby bottle or bottle of baby lotion in the center of the cake platter.  Make a ring around the bottle with the folded diapers.  Then place a large rubber band around the entire ring of diapers.


• With the remaining diapers, form a second ring by placing them around the first ring of diapers.  Place a large rubber band around the second ring.


• For the third and final ring around the first tier, tie a thin ¼ inch piece of ribbon around the middle of each diaper.  Make sure the rubber bands are covered with the ribbon.  Then form a third ring around the second ring.  Take a large ½ to 1 inch wide ribbon and tie it around the entire tier to hold them together in a circle shape.  Place the thick ribbon just below the thin ribbon so the bows show above the thick piece of ribbon.  You have just completed the first tier.


• For the second tier, you will only make two rings of diapers.  Form the first ring around the part of the lotion or bottle that is still sticking out.  Tie a large rubber band around the diaper ring.  For the second ring, tie thin ribbon around the diapers to hide the rubber bands.  Tie the larger ribbon around the entire ring, just like in the first tier.


• For the third tier, you will use the 4 oz. bottle.  Assemble this tier on the table and place it on the rest of the cake after you have assembled.


• Take the rolled up diapers and make a ring around the bottle.  Tie them with a thin ribbon to hide the rubber bands.  Tie the wide ribbon around the ring.


• Place the third tier on top and now it’s time to add in the baby items.  Place them in between the folds of the diapers and tuck the larger items into the outer layer of ribbon.

Add stickers and decorations to match the baby shower theme.  Put a miniature stuffed animal on the top of the tier for a final touch. Congratulations, you have just completed a baby shower diaper cake!
