40th, 50th & 60th Birthday
Celebrate 60 in Style with the Right Party
A 60th birthday party should be a celebration, and with a 50’s style sock hop, you will ensure the guest of honor has a great time. A sock hop will take guests back to the good old days, and it will create memories for years to come.
Atmosphere
Start off by setting the atmosphere. A record player or a jukebox is a must. You can purchase a mini jukebox to give your party the look you want. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but it will still have the desired effect.
Also, make sure you have a large cut out of some of the biggest starts of the 50’s and have a photo booth ready to take some pictures. Your photo booth only has to be a digital camera. Have the camera ready and snap people next to the Elvis cutout at the sock hop. Be sure to let your guests know the biggest stars of the day are going to be in attendance so they will look their best.
Rock and Roll
Decorate the hall with rock and roll party favors and decorations. Have records, guitars and other items that bring people back to the time rock and roll was fresh and new.
A cutout of a pink Cadillac will add to the rock and roll theme and bring all the guests back to the 50’s.
Games and Fun
Nothing says sock hop quite like the biggest games from the 50’s. How are you hula hopping skills these days? Have a hula hoop at the party and have a contest. Your hips might not move as they used to, but this is still certain to be fun.
You can also show clips of movies from the day. Don’t forget the 3-D movies. They were all the rage in the 50’s and should be a part of your party.
Get to Dancing
Take your poodle skirt and bobby socks out to the dance floor and cut a rug to some of the best of the 1950’s. Do some of the biggest dances of the 50’s. Bring back the good old days with your dance moves.
After the Party
Be sure to stop by the soda shop after the party. Make soda shop signs and have party guests stop by for a root beer float after the festivities.
Sock Hop Tips
- Have someone teach guests dance moves. Some might not remember how to do the twist, but with an instructor, no one will be left out of the fun.
- Choose the best hits of the day, and play them on record or on a jukebox. T his will make the party more authentic and fun.
- Spend time picking out the right clothes. Retrieve your poodle skirt out of storage and make sure your hair is perfect for the event.
- Add to the fun by talking in the same way you did back in the 50’s. Use the same expressions and try to become the person once again. It is sure to increase the fun.
