Create Memories at the First Birthday
Time has flown by since the newest member of your family has arrived, and your baby is going to turn one year old. As with so many firsts that you’ve celebrated, the first bath, the first step, the first word, and on and on, the first birthday party needs to be memorable as well.
Create a photo album
The baby may be too young to understand what’s going on at the first birthday party, but the photo album you create will bring pleasure for you and your child for years to come. In future years, you and your child can share time together looking at the album and talking about matters such as who attended the party, the special themes you used, and the frosting smeared all over your baby’s face.
This album will also serve as a resource for future parties. Keep your hand-written notes inside this album. They will serve as a good reminder of what needs to be done to help organize for the next party. Why start from scratch every year when you already have a list of all the planning details that need to be considered.
Memory page
Have the guests write little notes to the baby on a page to keep in the photo album. Guests can write about the joy your baby has brought into everyone’s life or a special memory they shared with your child. These anecdotes will bring joy to you and your little one for years to come.
Keep the party small
Since your baby doesn’t understand what’s going on, it’s much better to keep the party small by inviting only close relatives. You don’t want to overwhelm your child with a crowd of people talking loudly and tossing him/her from one person to another like a hot potato. Make the party a pleasant experience for your child by inviting the familiar people he loves.
Hold the party after the baby’s nap
You want your baby’s first party to be memorable, of course, but you also want the memories to be of a fun time with your baby smiling and laughing. By scheduling the party after the baby rested, you can be much more assured that the baby will be a happy participant in this memorable event.
Opening presents
Babies can be overwhelmed with lots of presents, but your guests have shopped for the perfect gift and would be disappointed if not given the pleasure of watching your child discover each special gift.
Plan to spread the gift opening throughout the party time rather than stack all the bounty in front of the child and have the little one open one after another.
By allowing time between each gift, you are giving your child the opportunity to process all the new information that comes with each gift as well as each guest the pleasure of sharing a special moment with your little one.
Your baby’s first birthday can be a wonderful experience if you just keep in mind that the star of the party is still awfully young. Keep the first birthday party simple, and you can count on creating beautiful memories.
